1.) Shivanasamudra Waterfall
Located in the state of Karnataka, this waterfall is about 130 kilometers from Bangalore. It is easy to reach Shivanasamudra Waterfall by road. If you drive from Bangalore, the view will be scenic with views of the mountains and greenery on both sides of the road. The waterfall is near the Kaveri River and the river splits into two distinct sections – Gaganachukki and Barachukki. The fall offers an astonishing view and has an average width of 305 meters (1,001 ft), a height of 98 meters (322 ft). The best time to visit Shivanasamudra Waterfall is from September to January. The waterfall is in its full luster during the monsoon season. You can enjoy a boat trip on small circular boats (called coracles) that take you near the spectacular waterfall. 2.) Dudhsagar Waterfall
Dudhsagar Waterfall is located in Goa. In India, this is one of the tallest waterfalls, with its average height of 310 meters (1017 feet) and its average width of 30 meters (100 feet). The magnificent white waterfall is also known as the ‘Milk Sea’. The waterfall is about 74 kilometers from Goa Airport. Trekkers have a great option to trek here. When you reach the entrance gate, one has to book a separate jeep (shared or private) that will take you to the waterfalls. The waterfall is located on the Mandovi River. Dudhsagar Falls rose to prominence when the Bollywood movie “Chennai Express” starring Shah Rukh Khan was shot here. 3.) Athirappilly Waterfall
Athirappilly Falls is located on the Chalakudy River in the Thrissur district of Kerala. The fall is a mammoth with a height of 25 meters (82 ft) and a width of 100 meters (330 ft). This waterfall is one of the most fascinating places in South India situated about 38 kilometers from Cochin Airport. In the monsoon, the waterfall appears in all its glory. However, heavy rain causes many problems, so the best time to visit is September to January. Driving to Athirapally with green grass all around is a delightful experience. Once you have your entry ticket, walk to the forest, enjoy nature and reach the waterfall.
4.) Chitrakote Waterfall
Chitrakote waterfall is Asia’s widest waterfall also famed as the “Niagara Falls of India”. It is located in the Indian state of Chattisgarh, originating from the Indravati River in the Bastar region. You can also visit the ancient temple dedicated to Lord Shiva near the waterfall. While visiting the falls, you will cross several stalls where local people sell handmade items called Bastar Art. Chitrakote Falls is 29 meters (95 ft) tall and is about 300 meters (980 ft) wide. The everlasting beauty of this waterfall is enhanced by the dense forests surrounding it. One can also climb down the stairs and board a boat at the bottom of the waterfall and the view from here is really amazing and breathtaking. The best time to visit Chitrakote Waterfall is from October to March. In winter, the weather is delightful and the water is milky white.
5.) Nohkalikai Falls
Pride of Meghalaya province and the fourth highest waterfall in the world, Nohkalikai Waterfall is about 5 kilometers from Cherrapunjee – one of the wettest places in the world. Nohkalikai Waterfall is the highest point in India at 340 meters (1115 ft) and 23 meters (75 ft) wide in the evergreen rain forest in Kasi Hill. The waterfall is extremely beautiful during the rainy season when the water flows directly into the underground pool, making it more captivating. The best time to visit in the monsoon is in the months of September and October when the fall is in full form. One can shop for some amazing relics at the local stalls around the waterfall. You will want to come back for more after getting a ravishing view of the falling waters on your tour.
6.) Jog Waterfall
Located in a dense evergreen forest in the Shimoga region of Karnataka, Jog Falls is the second tallest waterfall in India. The Jog Falls is also called Gersoppa Falls or Jogada Gundi. During the monsoon, the water level rises to give a very marvelous view of the fall with the rainbow seen sporadically. The height of the falls is 253 meters (830 ft) and it is 472 meters (1,549 ft) wide. It is one of nature’s majestic masterpieces due to being situated in dense greenery. The effect of this prominent fall is enhanced by the wild and delightful region around it which is covered with plenty of abundant vegetation. This waterfall drops directly down without cascading on the rocks. The best time to visit is August to December as this is also a time of excellent flow. One of India’s largest power stations operates here as well.
7.) Mallalli Waterfall
Mallalli Waterfalls in Somwarpet Taluk offer spectacular views to visitors. One of the lesser-known waterfalls in Coorg, Mallalli Falls, is the magnificent and spectacular falls on the foothills of the Pushpagiri range. The Kumaradhara River comes down to the rocks to create a noisy waterfall that can be heard from miles away. The Waterfall has two drops falling from 200 feet. The surrounding areas have spectacular views of the Green Forest, valleys, and mountains. Waterfalls provide a tranquilizing experience when viewed from a distance. One can carefully tread down the waterfall and enjoy the mist atmosphere. The base of the waterfall offers a magnificent view of the surrounding forest.
8.) Sissu, The Heart Shaped Waterfall
Sissu Waterfall, nestled on the diversion of the Leh-Manali Highway gives the most tantalizing experiences in Lahaul and the Spiti district of Himachal Pradesh. If you are planning an escape from the hustle and bustle of life to revive your soul, Sissu Waterfall can undoubtedly be an ideal spot for you. Sissu Falls is a center point of fascination for tourists who visit here. The source of water is the glaciers in the Himalayan range which constantly infuse fresh and pure water into the little streams after snow melts. This fall has a drop of about 50 meters and is considered as one of the best falls in the Himalayan region by travelers. Its iconic heart-shaped appearance makes it a worthy spot for photography. The fall is best visited during the months from June till October since the climate is pleasant at that time of the year.
